Badges & Points

Overview of the Badges & Points section in Settings, covering badges, badge configuration, the points program, and certificate templates.

Updated at July 6th, 2026

The Badges & Points section in Platform Settings is where you manage digital credentials across your Academy. From here, you can create and manage badges, configure how the points program works, set platform-wide defaults for badge behaviour, and manage certificate templates that are issued alongside badges.

To access Badges & Points, navigate to Settings from the main left navigation menu and select Badges & Points under Platform. The section opens on All Badges by default. Use the sub-navigation to move between All Badges, Badge Settings, Points, and Certificates.

All Badges

The All Badges list gives you an overview of every badge on your platform, including each badge's points value, when it was created, how many programs it's linked to, and how many times it has been issued to learners.

You can use the search bar to find a badge by name, or use the Active Badges dropdown to filter the list by active, archived, or all badges. Selecting Export will download the full list.

Badge Settings

Badge Settings allows you to control which badge features are enabled across your platform and set the default values that apply when new badges are created.

Configuration
The Configuration section contains a set of toggles that enable or disable badge features platform-wide:

  • Enable Badges — turns the badges feature on or off across your entire platform.
  • Enable My Badges — displays a My Badges section on learner profiles, allowing participants to view the badges they've earned.
  • Enable Social Badges — allows learners to share their badges on social media platforms.
  • Enable Credly Badges — activates the Credly integration so that badges can be linked to Credly credentials. You'll need a linked Credly account to use this feature.
  • Enable Badge Points — enables the points system, allowing individual badges to carry a points value.
  • Enable Certificate PDF — allows certificates to be generated and downloaded as PDFs when a badge is issued.
  • Enable Expiry — enables badge expiry across the platform. When this is turned off, expiry settings cannot be applied to any badge, regardless of individual badge configuration.
  • Enable Claims — allows learners to manually claim badges they believe they've earned.

Default Settings
The Default Settings section lets you set platform-wide defaults that apply to new badges:

  • My Badges Title — the heading displayed on learners' My Badges page. You can update this to match the language and terminology used on your platform.
  • My Badges Description — the descriptive text that appears beneath the My Badges heading on learner profiles.
  • Default Badge Image — the fallback image used for any badge that doesn't have its own image uploaded. This should be a 600 × 600 pixel file.
  • Default Expiry Type — the expiry type applied to new badges by default. This can be overridden at the individual badge level.

Select Save once you've made your changes.

Points

The Points page is where you configure your platform's points program — the system that awards learners points for earning badges.

  • Points Title — the name used for points across your platform, such as "CLE Points" or "Credits." This label appears wherever points are referenced for learners.
  • Enable Points Program — turns the points program on or off. Badges can still exist and be issued when this is disabled, but no points will be awarded.
  • Points Program Title — the name of your overall points program as it appears to learners.
  • Description — a short description of the points program that learners will see on their profile.
  • Enable Points Program Leaderboard — enables a leaderboard that ranks learners by their accumulated points total.

Points Program Levels
Points Program Levels allow you to define progression tiers that learners move through as they accumulate points. Each level has a points threshold and a badge that is automatically awarded when a learner reaches it. You can click a level to expand and edit its threshold and linked badge, and drag levels to reorder them.

Certificates

The Certificates page lists the certificate templates available on your platform. Certificate templates can be attached to individual badges so that when a badge is issued, a corresponding certificate is generated and made available for the learner to download.

To add a new certificate template, select Add Certificate Template. The Badges: Certificate spage includes a link to a Base Template — starting from this template ensures all required variables are included in your design.

The list shows each template's name, how many programs are using it, and whether it has been set as the default template. You can select the three dot menu next to any template to edit or delete it.
